Second wife ‘kills’ husband in capital

Update : 21 Feb 2014, 03:48 PM

A man was said to have been strangled to death by his alleged drug peddler second wife and children in the capital’s Sabujbagh early on Friday.

The dead was identified as Nuru Mia, 48, from Narayanganj. Police retrieved the body hanging from a ceiling fan of the house, located at Basabo.

Police arrested the wife Aleya Begum, her daughter Amena Akhter, Amena’s husband Khokan mia and their affiliates Sajal and Tuchachha.

However, Aleya and the detained others claimed Nuru committed suicide and hung himself.

Sabujbagh police Sub Inspector Belal Hossain endorsed the information and said police recovered the body after obtaining information from locals.

“Though the body was found hanging, there were injury marks on his shoulder and other places of the body,” he said.

Monir Hossain, a son of Nuru, said his family was living in Malibagh before his father left and began living separately with a second wife at Basabo three years ago.

“Aleya is a drug-peddler. Aleya killed my father in association with one affiliate Jahanara following a feud over the illegal business,” Monir claimed.

Monir filed a murder case against the five held with Sabujbagh police. The detainees were placed on a five-day remand in police custody.
