Youth 'attempts suicide' after 'killing' mother

The suspect, Sujon Chowdhury, 21, has been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said police. SI Atiqur Rahman of Bandar police station said: “In primary interrogation, Sujon admitted that he tried to commit suicide after killing his mother Kumkum Chowdhury, 45, wife of local lawyer Sukhomoy Chowdhury.” However, the reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. “Somnath Chowdhury, the elder son of the victim, found the hacked body of his mother at their house after returning home around 12:30pm and informed the police,” said SI Atiqur. “Later, a team of Bandar police recovered the body and detained Sujon from the spot in injured condition,” he added. He told the Dhaka Tribune: “Investigation is underway and the details regarding the incident could be known after talking with the family members and the neighbours.”
