Awami League Lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron has condemned the recent killing of Jubo League leader Faruk Ahmed, alias Panama Faruk, during a ‘gunfight’ with RAB members in Barisal last Monday.
Hiron, also the Barisal city unit president of the Awami League, made the statement while addressing a special extended meeting of the city unit’s executive committee, in the district town yesterday morning.
He also refuted claims by law enforcers that Faruk was a top criminal and was accused in more than a dozen cases, including murder, extortion and unlawful toll collection.
Urging law enforcers not to make any false statements against any innocent citizens, Hiron expressed hope that no other AL activist would be killed in such a way.`
