An alleged terrorist was killed in a "shootout" with the police and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in Chapatala Shalbagan in the district's Abhaynagar upazila, earlier on Friday.
The deceased was one Mesbahur Rahman, 40, son of Ramjan Ali of the area.
ASP Mozammel Haque of RAB 6 told the Dhaka Tribune that, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and RAB launched an investigative drive in the village at around 4am while Mesbah was holding a clandestine meeting with his associates.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the terrorists fired at them forcing the law enforcers to fire back triggering a full blown gunfight.
Mesbah was caught in the line of fire and managed to sustain severe injuries while the other gang members managed to flee, said the RAB official.
He later perished at an upazila heath complex.
Police said Mesbah was wanted in 10 cases, including the village physician, ex-army man and local Awami League leader Chaitanya Kumar Mandol murder case.
