Nabin Hossain Rabbi, 32, was detained Wednesday night, confirmed RAB 11 Commanding Officer (CO) Kamrul Hassan. The commanding officer told the Dhaka Tribune: “Based on information from some other detained militants we conducted a drive and were able to detain Rabbi around 9pm. “During the primary interrogation Rabbi had admitted to being a member of the banned militant outfit of the Sarwar-Tameem Group. He worked Rampura and Moghbazar areas trying to get people to join the militant group. RAB 11 CO also said that Rabbi had been on the run since he was accused in a case filed with the Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj on 11 June. He used to regularly invite people to join the JMB under the guise of working in a private company. “From 2015, Rabbi regularly began to visit Maulana Abdul Hakim's mosque in Mirpur-10. He was introduced to him through a friend. Having been inspired by the maulana’s ideology on jihad, Rabbi joined the JMB and started to help the organisation indoctrinate and recruit new members. “During the interrogation Rabbi also admitted that he had been travelling to Narayanganj, Bogra, Chandpur with different ranking members of the JMB including Abu Yousa Mohammad Abdullah alias Emon, Anwar Hossain, Saiful Goni Chowdhury, Imran Ahmed, Salim Hawladar to recruit members for the banned militant outfit,” said CO Kamrul. According to RAB, Sarwar Jahan alias Abdur Rahman alias Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif was the chief of New JMB while Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury was the second-in-command of the group.
