Army personnel killed in road accident

A sergeant of Bangladesh Army died in a road accident yesterday on the Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge.

The deceased is Probhat Kumer, 35, a staff sergeant of the engineering battalion 6 at the Bogra cantonment.

Mujahid Uddin, a maintenance officer and traffic manager of the Bangabandhu Bridge confirmed the incident.

He said while returning from ijtema, a truck of Bangladesh Army collided with 14 no pillar of the Bangabandhu Bridge on its way to the Bogra cantonment.

The accident left Sergeant Probhat critically injured who was driving the truck. He was admitted to the Brigadier Medical camp nearby. Later he died while being transferred to Dhaka by a helicopter of the army, said Mujahid.

Vehicle movement remained suspended for three hours on the lane because of the accident, creating a gridlock on both ends of the bridge.
