Housewife sandwiched to death by racing buses

Update : 06 Feb 2014, 01:57 PM

A housewife had to face her tragic death when two racing buses sandwiched her to death in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Thursday evening.

Hailing from Shariyatpur district, the victim was identified as Khaleda Khanam alias Kakoli, 35, wife of Associate Professor Abdul Quader of Eden University College.

Angry people went into rampages through vandalism of several vehicles, including the killer buses, and gave a good beating after one of the drivers was caught red handed while he had been trying to flee the scene.

Transport movement on Satmasjid Road remained suspended for over one hour following the accident.

“The housewife fell down on the road while she had been trying to get into the bus as it was taking passengers keeping it running near Medinova Diagnostic Centre in Dhanmondi around 5:15pm,” said Sub-Inspector Abdur Rashid of Dhanmondi police station.

Meanwhile another bus of Raja City Paribahan had tried to overtake that bus as part of race among the buses, he added.

SI Rashid said the housewife was sandwiched as she had fallen in between the two rashly driven racing buses.

He said police and locals rushed her to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, but the doctors declared her dead around 6pm.

“We have detained both the buses and arrested one of the drivers and also trying to arrest another”, said Inspector Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Dhanmodi police station.
