A housewife was arrested Wednesday afternoon for inhuman torture to a 12-year-old household at her house in the capital’s Tolarbagh from where the victim girl was rescued at a critical condition.
The victim girl identified as Reshma Akhter was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the evening at a critical condition and admitted to the ‘One Stop Crisis Centre’.
The arrested housewife identified as Laizu Begum, 35, was taken to Darussalam police station and a case was also filed against her for torturing the poor girl brutally.
The OC said the girl was admitted at the ‘One Stop Crisis Centre’ for her critical state and her aunt filed a case against the housemistress in this connection.
The body of the poor girl bore marks of injuries at different places as the housewife had been torturing her in many ways including punishments with heated spoons.
Hailing from a village in Bhola district, Reshma came to Dhaka 3 months ago along with one of her aunts for a job as her poor father was not capable to manage his family with his low income.
Police and locals said Reshman had been serving the house of Bulbul Ahmed since last three months. But his wife Laizu Begum had been torturing the girl in many excuses.
“As part of continuous torture on the poor girl, Laizu Begum Wednesday beat the girl mercilessly. Witnessing the brutality on the 12-year-old girl, the local people rescued the minor girl and informed police of the incident”, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Darussalam police station.
The OC said, on information of the brutality and protest by the local people, police rushed to the spot and recued the victim girl and arrested the housewife from her residence at Tolarbagh.
“The housewife had been used to torture the girl often in many ways in different excuses”, the OC said, adding: “Different parts of the body of the girl bore the injury marks created due to torture on her.”
He said after the rescue of the girl Reshma, she had described the torture to her by her housemistress Laizu Begum while arrested Laizu Begum also admitted that she had often beat up Reshma for her various faults.
“The neighbors and local people also narrated how Laizu Begum had been torturing the poor girl”, Rafiqul said, adding: “The local people also said Laizu Begum did not care of the request of the locals for not torturing the household”
