Custom officials detained a person with Saudi Riya worth Tk4,969,389 and Dirham worth Tk528567 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport late on Monday night.
The detainee was identified as Sohel.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police EhtasumulHoque said Sohel was trying to go to Singapore with these currencies when the customs officials detained him upon seeing his suspicious behaviour around 10pm.
The currencies were seized after searching his luggage.
Senior ASP said investigations as to whetherSohel was a member of international currency trading group are underway.
