Kidnapped 12-year-old boy rescued, 2 held

A 12-year-old boy who had been reportedly kidnapped by a gang of criminals on January 31 was rescued Sunday and two of the alleged abductors were arrested from the capital’s Green Road.

According to RAB 2 officials, the two members of the gang were arrested when they tried to collect Tk19 lakh as ransom against their demand of Tk30 lakh. The arrestees were Md Sujon, 19, son of Md Hanif of Bhandaria upazila in Pirojpur, and Russell Sarkar, 18, son of Shahjahan of Kamarkhanda in Sirajganj.

Yiasir Arafat, son of Kamrul Islam, was allegedly kidnapped in front of Bashundhara Shopping Mall around 6pm. After an hour of the incident, one of the abductors called the boy’s mother and demanded Tk30 lakh as ransom.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Raihan Uddin Khan, also the operation officer of Rab 2, said they rescued the boy from the capital’s Green Road after they arrested the two kidnappers.

The RAB official also said four more youths named Dipu, 19, of Narayanganj, Gazi Ratan, 19, of Kalabagan, Mamun Hossain Talukder, 33, of Jhalakathi, and Mamun Akand, 20, of Madaripur, were also involved with the abduction but they were on the run.

He said the arrestees and the fugitives were all residents of the capital’s Kathalbagan area.
