Bank burglary: Mastermind’s wife held

Police have recovered Tk2.5 lakh at a house in the capital’s Shyampur area and held the wife of Kishoreganj bank burglary mastermind Yusuf Munshi.

Mahila Aktar, wife of Yusuf, was detained by a team of police led by Abdul Malek, investigation officer of the case and also the officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj police station, in the capital’s Jatrabari area around 4:45pm.

OC Abdul Malek confirmed the detention to the Dhaka Tribune.

“Getting information from Yusuf in the interrogation, police raided a residence at Shyampur and recovered Tk2.5 lakh from a locked room,” he said.

Later, the law enforcers detained Mahila.

Yusuf, the mastermind of the bank robbery, and Idris were arrested with the stolen money in the capital’s Shyampur Balurmath area on Tuesday. Another relative of Yusuf, Motahar Hossain, was also arrested from a nearby building.

Later on Wednesday afternoon, they were handed over to Kishoreganj police.

Earlier on Sunday, the authorities of the Rathkhola branch of Sonali Bank in Kishoreganj district sadar noticed that Tk16.4 crore had been looted from its vault via an underground tunnel.
