The specially-formed joint forces arrested four supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami in raids through Satkhira on Tuesday. Police arrested 13 others.
Satkhira police spokesperson Sub Inspector Kamal Hossain said the four Jamaat men were arrested for various sabotage-related cases.
The four are: Shahidul Islam, 24, son of Nazir Gazi, Atiar Rahman, 42, son of Abdul Hai Sardar, Bipul, 19, son of Rustam Ali, and Arizul Islam, 38, son of Moksed.
The policeman also informed that 13 others were arrested for different cases. However, he could not elaborate on the identity of the arrestees.
Satkhira is believed to be a stronghold of the Jamaat and listed as one of the “vulnerable” areas of the country where specialised forces are cracking down.
