Unidentified assailants hacked a local Jubo Dal leader to death at Shonashibada village, Pabna earlier on Monday.
The deceased was the president of the Jubo Dal's Ruppur unit Manik Hossain, 45, son of Nurul Islam Mia.
Aminpur police station Officer-in-Charge Faruk Hossain said: “Miscreants tried to rob Manik’s residence at 2am.”
“The robbers took Manik behind his house and hacked him,” he said.
The OC added that Manik died on the spot while the robbers managed to flee the scene.
The body was recovered by the police later in the morning.
Bera upazila BNP Secretary Rayech Uddin confirmed of the deceased's identity.
Rayech Uddin claimed that some unidentified individuals, under the guise of the police, called Manik out of the house and killed him.
