A three-year-old girl was violated at Fatulla in the capital on Monday.
Police arrested the alleged rapist on Tuesday. He was identified as Riaz, hailing from Barguna district.
Fatulla police station Sub-Inspector Hamid said the victim used to live in a rented house beside Fatulla rail station.
She is the youngest of her five siblings. All of her family members were at their workplaces during the incident.
Riaz, who was jobless, also lived in her sister’s house in the area.
On Monday, he summoned the girl child who went to him along with her playmate.
The guilty party tied the girl and violated her. Seeing the girl tied at Riaz’s home, the victim’s sister asked Riaz why she was kept tied.
The felon answered that he did it out of mischief.
The victim fell ill on Tuesday after the incident.
Asked, the girl child and her playmate narrated the incident. Riaz also confessed to violating the girl after he was given a sound beating by locals, who handed him over to police later.
Fatulla OC Akter Hossain said, “A case has been lodged in connection with the incident yesterday morning. He is going to be sent to the court.”
In Jessore, a suspected rapist was beaten to death by a woman at a garden in Shahapur under Jessore Sadar upazila.
The deceased was Mohammad Ali, 32, of Marua village under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore.
Ali was hit with a brick allegedly by the woman while he tried to violate her Monday morning, our correspondent in Jessore reported.
Police exhumed the body from near the residence of the housewife at night.
The housewife hit Ali with a brick as he was trying to rape her inside the garden Monday morning, police said.
The 32-year-old tried to take the advantage of the woman’s husband’s absence in the house, added police.
Her husband was the caretaker of the garden belonging to a physician.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
The housewife was also arrested.
Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer-in-charge, Kotwali police station, told journalists he heard the women kill the young man to save herself from being violated.
