Update : 12 Jan 2014, 06:17 PM

A farmer’s house was set on fire by group of unidentified criminals early yesterday in Jogonthpur village of Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila.

According to sources, a gang of criminals hurled petrol bombs at the residence of Siddikur Rahman Moyez around 1am which initiated the fire. The farmer’s family claimed that valuables worth Tk12 lakh were gutted in the fire, including two cows and goats.

Fire service sources said they went to the spot after receiving information and doused the fire after an hour’s effort.

Siddikur Rahman, a Bangabandhu Agriculture Award winning farmer, alleged that his brother along with his men had set fire to the house as they had previous enmity over family property.

Officer-in-Charge Biman Kumar Das of Ishwardi police station said a case was filed by Moyez against his brother and 13 others for setting fire to his residence. Police arrested a suspect from the village later in the morning, he added.

Pabna Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin along with the officers of local administration visited the house in the morning.
