AL man shot dead, suspect killed in ‘shootout’

A local Awami League activist was shot to death by miscreants and one killer who was caught red handed during shooting was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police shortly after the incident at Tolna village in Dumuria upazila of Khulna on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Shahidul Islam, a member of Dhamali Union Parisad and an activist of the upazila unit AL and Sohan, a listed criminal of the upazila.

Dumuria police station Officer-in-Charge Shah Mohammad Awalad Hossain confirmed the death incidences to the Dhaka Tribune.

The OC said: “Shahidul Islam was gunned down by miscreants at 11pm at the village. During the time, locals caught Sohanred handed, one of the shooters and handed him over to police. Later, police launched a drive in the area along with Sohan. At one stage, sensing the presence of police, Sohan’s associates opened fire on the law enforcers prompting them to fire back. During the shootout, Sohan died on the spot.”

A pistol, two shutter guns, four powerful hand bombs were recovered from the spot, he added.
