Awami League lawmaker Dr Mostofa Jalal Mahiuddin, also a candidate of national parliament election, filed a case against nine associates of rebel Awami League candidate Haji Mohammad Selim for a bomb attack at his electoral function.
The accused are Delwar Hossain, Shahidul Islam, Md Selim, Md Mintu, Abul Hossain, Md Jahangir Alam, Md Ibrahim, Md Rana and Md Jewel.
More than 10 people, including three women and a child, were injured in a bomb attack at Mostofa Jalal’s electoral function in Lalbagh around 5:30pm.
Chawkbazar Police Station Sub-inspector Shakhawat Hossain said Mostofa, Awami League’s election candidate for Dhaka-7,filed the case against the nine people for allegedly launching the attack to kill people and foil the programme.
He said all the accused were locals of Lalbagh and Chawkbazar areas.
Local sources said they were also the co-accused in many other cases filed against Haji Selim.
“All the nine accused are associates of Awami League’s rebel candidate Haji Mohammad Selim”, said Harun-ur-Rashid, Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner of Lalbagh Division.
The DC said, “We have not arrested or detained anyone yet, as many mysteries are still shrouded over the incident, apart from the political affiliations in it.”
He added that they would not detain anyone without getting full proof about anyone’s involvement as the matter is sensitive.
Refuting the allegation on Thursday, Joint Secretary of Dhaka City Awami League Haji Selim said he had no interests to conduct such activities.
