BNP activist hacked to death in Jessore

Miscreants hacked an activist of the main opposition BNP to death at Masna Khanpur area under Monirampur upazila in Jessore on Monday noon.

The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman, 30, an activist of Monirampur upazila unit BNP and son of Shahar Ali, of Masna Khanpur village under the upazila.

Abdur Rahim, elder brother of the victim told journalists: “A gang of ruling Awami League led by Tauhid, Alamgir, Lingkon on Shohag swooped on Habib while he was taking food at home on Monday afternoon. The miscreants stabbed him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.”

He was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, said family members.

However, Mir Rezaul Islam, officer in-charge of Monirampur police station said Habib along with another person received injuries during a clash. The wounded were rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where Habib died.

Shahid Iqbal Hossain, mayor, Monirampur Municipality and also president of the upazila unit BNP, and Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary, Jessore district unit BNP, claimed that ruling party cadres killed Habib.

They said: “The killers are known as notorious terrorists at the area.”

Local BNP staged a demonstration in the area protesting the “killing”.
