A severely burnt schoolgirl died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Friday night after fighting with her life for the past five days, police and hospital sources said.
The deceased was identified as Nusrat Jahan, 14, a class nine student of Rangpur Police Lines School & College and daughter of Ashek Ali of village Paglapeer Mulapara under Sadar upazila.
She was burnt in their kitchen at her home village on December 15 in the morning as soon as she fired a match box stick to ignite the cooking furnace that was connected with a gas cylinder.
The fire immediately caught the whole kitchen room as it was poured with gas of the cylinder that remained switched on mistakenly throughout the night.
Nusrat was immediately admitted to the RMCH where she succumbed after five days.
Police Super and Chairman of the Governing Body of Rangpur Police Lines School and College Abdur Razzaque expressed his profound shock at sudden demise of Nusrat, a brilliant student of the reputed educational institution.
