Youth lynched in Jessore

Two young men died in separate incidents in Jessore and Chittagong yesterday. One of them has been missing for the last six days, the other  was mobbed for his alleged involvement in theft.

In Jessore, a youth was lynched to death by unruly mob in Talshari village under Benapole port police station early yesterday. The dead was Shahidul Islam, 34, of Talshari village.

Police and locals claimed that Shahidul was beaten up seriously by the mob around 11pm on Tuesday. He was rushed to Jessore Medical College by his relatives soon after the incident. He died in the hospital around 2am.

Manirul Islam, a sub-inspector of Benapole port police station, said Shahidul was killed by the mob for his alleged involvement in a theft.

In Chittagong, police recovered the decomposed body of Masud Parvaz, 20, a pipe mechanic, from a drain in Chittagong city’s Chandgaon area.

Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf, assistant commissioner of Panchlaish circle of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said police recovered the body of Masud from a drain beside Osmania Glass Factory in the area around 8:30am.

Later, the dead body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem examination. Police could not detect the cause of death as it was found in a fully decomposed condition, he said.

Police called four people to Chandgaon police station for interrogation but the law enforcers did not mention their names for the sake of the investigation. A case was lodged in this regard, the AC added.
