The suspected killer of two day-labourers in the capital’s Badda area was claimed to have been killed in a shootout with the police in Rampura area Wednesday, a day after the double murder.
Identified as Mohammad Sohag, 26, the youth succumbed to his bullet wounds while undergoing treatment at the Orthopedic Hospital (Pongu Hospital) in the capital’s Agargaon in the afternoon.
“Deceased Sohag was suspected as one of the criminals who shot two day labourers to death in the city on Tuesday, “said Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Badda police station.
The OC said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided the Aftabnagar area around 5am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on the police forcing us to retaliate that resulted in a gunfight,” added OC Iqbal Hossain.
He said: “At one stage of the gunfight, criminals fled the scene. Later, police rescued bullet-hit Sohag from the spot.”
he Badda OC said they arrested bullet hit Sohag along with a pistol and admitted him to the Pongu Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.
Police sources said few other suspects have also been arrested for the double murder, but they declined to disclose their identities.
A gang of masked criminals made a gun attack at a construction site leaving two day labourers dead and injured another in the capital’s Moinarbagh at Modhya Badda Tuesday morning.
Police and witnesses said the gun attack was made following a refusal to pay extortion money to the local criminals by the owner of an under construction building.
Later, the owner of the building filed a case accusing a number of unnamed criminals.
