Faridpur arson victim Mehedi dies at DMCH

Another victim of the ongoing fearful and violent agitation programmes of the opposition, Mehedi, a trucker of Faridpur, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday morning.

The 28-year old trucker succumbed to his injuries around 9:20am after seven days of battling death, said resident surgeon at the DMCH burn unit Partha Shankar Pal.

On November 30, Mehedi received severe burns as pickets hurled a bottle of flammable liquid on his vehicle while he was crossing Harisha Ray area of Faridpur district.

Witnesses said the burning bottle of the flammable liquid fell on his lap, leaving him with 64 percent burns.

Later, locals rescued him and admitted to a local hospital. After receiving initial treatment, Mehedi was transferred to the burn unit of DMCH.

Five other patients are suffering at the ICU of the DMCH.

Their condition was stated to be critical. They are named as Jahangir Hossain Mridha, suffering from 10% respiratory burn injury, Abdul Aziz suffering from 35% burn, Rahajul suffering from 30% burn, Abu Talha suffering from 28% burn and Nurnabi, suffering from 35% burn.

Dr Partha Shankar Pal, of the unit, says that the special medical board is giving extra attention to the patients and that the hospital is doing its best to heal them.
