Six sent to jail for hacking schoolgirl to death

A judicial magistrate’s court on Monday sent six people to jail for allegedly hacking a schoolgirl to death and injuring four others in Gournadi of Barisal.

The six accused, including the drug addict killer, Nayon Bala, 20, his father, Amal Bala, his uncle, Dulal Bala, and his aunts Renu Bala, Puspa Bala and Subarna Bala were all denied bail by the court.

Tania, 11, a student of class four at a local primary school, was hacked to death by Nayon on Sunday morning at the Dakkhin-Pashchim Para under Batajor union of Gournadi, Barisal.

Meanwhile, Hasi Begum, 20, her six-month-old daughter, Marufa, Annya, 4, killer Nayon’s niece and Manir Sardar, 11, a schoolboy were also injured in the incident.

After an autopsy at Barisal She-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital Tania’s body was laid to rest at her family graveyard on Sunday evening.

That night, Alamgir Sardar, the victim’s father, lodged a murder case against 12 accused with the Gournadi police station, said Abul Kalam, Gournadi police station officer-in-charge.

Sub-Inspector Yunus, investigation officer of the case, said the six accused were arrested immediately, while the two others accused, Tapash Bala and Amaresh Bala, relatives of the killer, were still at large.

Aktar Hossain Babul, Batajor union parishad chairman and union BNP president said Nayonis is a drug addict and there were no issues of old rivalry or communal feelings behind the incident.

Police have been deployed at the killer Nayon Bala’s house and at surrounding areas populated by Hindu communities, said Gournadi police station in charge.
