A garment worker was killed allegedly by her husband in the capital’s Mirpur area on Friday, just three months after their marriage.
Shamsun Nahar, 18, originally from Kishoreganj, was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Her mother Swarupa Begum alleged that her son-in-law Kabir Hossain killed her for dowry. “My daughter married Kabir Hossain, a garment worker, three months ago. It was an affair-marriage,”
She also alleged that after the first “happy” month of their marriage, Kabir and his family started torturing her and demanding money from her.
“On Wednesday, they demanded Tk15,000 and as we failed to give the money, they killed my daughter.”
Quoting DMCH doctors, SI Rasel of Pallabi police station said the details of the incident would be clear only after the autopsy report.
The victim’s husband admitted her to a local hospital on Friday, saying that she tried to commit suicide, the
SI said, adding that the victim’s husband and family members went into hiding.
