Former deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (DB-North) Mollah Nazrul has been given posting after over six months he had remained closed to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters on charges of extorting Tk 10m from a businessman.
Besides, SM Mehedi, additional DC of Motijheel Division of the DMP, has been transferred to the Waari Division for allegedly detaining three women lawmakers of BNP from in front of their party office illogically, said DMP sources.
Masudur Rahman, DMP Media Centre DC , said, “As per the order issued by DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed on Thursday, Mollah Nazrul Islam has been transferred to Planning, Research and Human Resources Development Department of DMP while SM Mehedi, ADC of Motijheel Division, to the Wari division.”
Sources said Mollah Nazrul has been given the posting on Thursday, one day after the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) dropped his name from an extortion case.
Allegation raised that Mollah Nazrul Islam picked up a businessman, Syed Abidul Islam, from Gulshan on April 7 and allegedly extorted Tk10m by threatening to kill him in crossfire.
Following the incident, Kabirul Haque, a relative of the victim, and a ruling party lawmaker from Narail 1 constituency, filed complaints with the home ministry and police headquarters against Nazrul.
Following allegations, the commission in July formed a body to investigate the matter.
