Rapid Action Battalion (Rab 2) personnel have seized a touchstone Hindu idol of Krishna, weighing four kilograms, from the capital’s Mohammadpur early yesterday.
Members of the elite force also arrested a person in this connection.
The arrestee is Haiyul Islam, 30, a member of a statue smuggling gang.
Rab 2 Operation Officer Raihan Uddin Khan told the Dhaka Tribune that acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab 2 led by Major Himadri Shekhar seized the statue and arrested Haiyul.
Later, he was handed over to the Mohammadpur police station, said Raihan.
The market value of the touchstone idol was estimated at Tk 3m by the Rab officers.
