Five suspected muggers sustained bullet wounds as they locked into a gunfight with law enforcers in the capital’s Gulbagh area, under Shahjahanpur police station, early Wednesday.
The muggers were: Md Saddam Hossain, 20, Monir Hossain, 26, Shanto Miah, 22, Anwarul Islam, 25, and Sumon, 17.
They were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with bullet wounds in their legs.
Shahjahanpur police station Sub-Inspector Zahirul Islam said the gunfight took place around 5am when police chased the gang while they were fleeing the area after looting pedestrians.
He said: “The muggers opened fire on police while being chased. In retaliation, police also fired back that left five muggers injured.” “They are now in police custody,” he said.
