Four DB men suspended

Update : 02 Nov 2013, 07:11 PM

Four members of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police including a sub-inspector were suspended on Saturday for releasing a shopkeeper after taking bribe.

Suspended DB personnel are SI Ashiqur Rahman, Constable Suman Dhar, Mizanur Rahman and Harun-or-Rashid, said Anindita Barua, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of DB in CMP. She told the Dhaka Tribune that they were suspended as part of routine work to maintain discipline in the police force.

DB sources said SI Ashiqur, along with some DB men, conducted a drive at number 103 shop of Reazuddin Bazar in the port city on October 30 night receiving information that about 3000 Yaba pills were in the shop.

However, they did not find any Yaba from the shop but they nabbed the shopkeeper on charge of hiding the Yaba pills from the shop before the arrival of police.

The DB men took him to DB office and allegedly released him after taking Tk1, 00000 in cash and another Tk1, 00000 in cheque from the shopkeeper.

The next day the shopkeeper put forward a complaint to the CMP commissioner and the commissioner asked the deputy commissioner (DC) of DB to investigate the matter.

DC Kusum Dewan of DB then asked Md Kamruzzaman, assistant commissioner (north) of DB, to look into the matter.

Kamruzzaman submitted the report to the DC on October 31 night after initial investigation. After that the DC of DB suspended the accused four DB men temporarily, said the sources.

The investigation was going on, added the ADC of DB.
