Police recovered 11 live crude bombs from Kabirajpara in Moharajpur onion of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Friday following the explosions of two others in the area earlier in the morning.

Police and locals said tension had been prevailing for several days between two groups in Kabirajpara and Sheikhpara villages over control of the area.

Amid the tension, two crude bombs exploded at Kabirajpara on Friday morning. Police later conducted an operation there and recovered the 11 unexploded crude bombs.

Locals said supporters of local residents Abdul Wadud and Jalal Uddin had been involved in a long-standing dispute over control of the area, which intensified recently.

They alleged that the crude bombs were stockpiled to be used in clashes arising from the dispute.

Officer-in-Charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station Ekramul Hossain said police went to the spot after receiving the information and recovered the 11 crude bombs.

“We are working to maintain law and order in the area,” he said, adding that the situation was largely calm.
