Around 20 crude bombs and petrol bomb-like objects were recovered from the former International Trade Fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon.
Members of the SRB Bomb Disposal Unit went to the site after receiving information through a tip-off and found the objects abandoned, according to SRB sources.
The Bomb Disposal Unit later began work to defuse the objects.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, said: “SRB found some bomb-like objects abandoned at the fairground. They are working to defuse them.”
Meanwhile, law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area and restricted public movement for security reasons.
It was not immediately known how the objects came to the site or who was involved. Relevant sources said more details may emerge after the recovery and defusing operations are completed.
