A 60-year-old freedom fighter was beaten to death in a scuffle over a paltry sum of Tk60 at Begumganj upazila of Noakhali yesterday.
According to witnesses, the victim, Babul Chandra Das, had parked his bus in front of a house at Kuripara.
When Babul returned after an hour, a local youth named Soliman allegedly demanded Tk60 from him for keeping an eye on the vehicle.
But when Babul refused to pay, Soliman reportedly beat him up severely.
Some passersby rescued Babul in a critical condition and took him to Noakhali General Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
