Anger in social media over Risha's death

People expressed outrage and disbelief that such an incident could take place in broad daylight and raised questions about the safety of women and girls on the streets in general.

Fellow students from Suraiya's school, Willes Little Flower School in Dhaka's Kakrail, have been using Facebook to organise their protests. On Monday they blocked the Kakrail intersection in front of their school with banners and placards. The event page showed 8,900 attendees. On the event wall and in popular public groups, people have made posts mourning Risha and calling for justice. Many have posted a photo circulated in the media of the suspected killer.

Apart from social media, the issue has been on the home pages of Bangla blogs and forums. In somewhereinblog, one user pointed out the society's habit of blaming the victim and asked what this child could be blamed for. "Tonu was a theatre actress, Afsana was a leftist, but what about Risha?" the user Dur Dipobashi wrote.
