RAB-2 has arrested three people, including Md Hossain Ahmed Shahrukh, the second accused in the widely discussed Alex Emon murder case in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.
They were arrested during separate operations in the Shahbagh and Rayerbazar areas on Saturday.
RAB-2 Commander Naimul Hasan disclosed the matter at a press briefing at the unit’s Mohammadpur headquarters.
The arrestees are: Md Hossain Ahmed Shahrukh, Md Tarekuzzaman Tarek, 30, and Md Shahidul Islam, 29.
RAB said an intelligence operation found that Shahrukh, a named accused in the case, and his associates were staying in Shahbagh. A team of RAB-2 later conducted a raid there and arrested the three.
Based on information obtained during interrogation, RAB later raided a house on Haji Yunus Khan Road in Rayerbazar.
The raid yielded a foreign-made 7.65mm pistol, a magazine, a locally made revolver, two rounds of ammunition, 260 grammes of gunpowder and two samurai swords, RAB said.
Naimul Hasan said several cases had previously been filed against Shahrukh with Mohammadpur Police Station, including two for theft, attempted robbery, attempted murder and intimidation; one for murder; one under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act; and one under the Speedy Trial Act.
Tarekuzzaman Tarek also has a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station on charges of theft, attempted murder and intimidation, RAB said.
According to RAB, 11 people have so far been arrested in the Alex Emon murder case, including six named in the FIR and five others whose identities were initially unknown. Operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.
