Police detained a man in Dhaka's Pallabi on Saturday after he allegedly attempted to rape a four-year-old child.
The incident occurred around noon when the accused, identified as Emdad, allegedly lured the child with food, according to police and local residents.
Locals reportedly noticed the incident, caught the suspect, beat him, and handed him over to police.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Basir said: "One person has been detained on allegations of attempting to rape a child. The victim's family is filing a case."
Pallabi Police Station Inspector (Operations) Hanif confirmed the detention.
"The investigation into the incident is ongoing," he said.
