Police detained a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader after an explosion took place in the port city's Bakulia area early on Wednesday.
Police identified the detainee as Abdullah, a local Jamaat leader and owner of the Sabujbagh residential area house where the explosion took place around 1:15am.
Bakulia police station Officer-in-charge Mohammad Mohsin confirmed the information and said bomb-making materials have been recovered from spot after explosion.
He was suggesting that the blast took place while bomb-making in initial reports.
Meanwhile, Abdullah denied his engagement with the blast, but said his brother Nasrullah, a locally-known Jamaat activist, was involved and that he fled after the blast with injuries.
Details were sketchy in primary reports.
Two weeks ago on October 7, a big explosion took place at Lalkhanbazar Madrassa, run by Hefazat-e Islam senior leader Mufti Izharul Islam, in the port city.
Police had recovered bomb-making materials from the Madrassa after the incident and arrested Mufti Izhar's son.
