A man was stabbed to death in the capital’s Jurain area on Thursday night.
The deceased Abdul Kuddus, 50, was attacked in the Nabarun Goli area, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Sohel Rana of Kadamtali Police Station.
Kuddus, a vegetable vendor, hailed from Shibchar upazila in Madaripur.
According to his mother Ranu Begum, Kuddus was sitting and chatting in front of a tea stall in Nabarun Goli when a group of youths suddenly attacked him with sharp weapons and fled the scene.
She said the attackers were previously acquainted with him and used to associate with him. About a week earlier, they had an altercation over an issue, although she could not identify them.
SI Sohel Rana said preliminary findings suggest the killing may have stemmed from a dispute among acquaintances. He added that police are also investigating whether any other factors were involved.
Kuddus was rescued in critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 11:45 pm where doctors declared him dead.
