A former Swechchhasebak Dal leader was stabbed to death in Dhaka’s Mouchak area on Monday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as Billal Hossain Talukdar, 57, former convener of Ward No. 19 Swechchhasebak Dal under Ramna Thana.
According to police, the incident took place around 8:00pm in front of Anarkali Market in Mouchak.
Billal was stabbed multiple times and was later rescued in critical condition. He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 9:20pm, where the doctor on duty declared him dead after examination.
Confirming the incident, Mazahar, assistant commissioner (AC) of the Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said preliminary information suggests that Billal was killed following a dispute related to a salish (local arbitration).
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Billal had previously served as convener of Ward No. 19 Swechchhasebak Dal under Ramna Thana. In September last year, he was arrested in a case filed over an attack and vandalism at the office of Sohag Paribahan in Malibagh. He was also expelled from the party at that time.
