Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested two accused, including the alleged mastermind, in the sensational murder case of Mintu Sheikh in Morrelganj of Bagerhat.
Lieutenant Colonel Nistar Ahmed, Commanding Officer of RAB-6, confirmed the arrests. A joint team from RAB-6 and RAB-2 conducted separate raids late Friday night in the Beribadh and Beribadh Janata Bazar areas under Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka. The operation led to the arrest of Mohsin Hawlader (40) and Shimul Molla (52), who were listed as the first and third accused in the case.
According to the case statement, Mintu Sheikh was expected to testify in a pending murder case involving Golam Rasul and Mansur Sheikh, in which the arrested men were accused. Investigators said the suspects repeatedly threatened Mintu and warned him not to appear as a witness.
Despite the threats, Mintu reportedly remained determined to testify. On May 18, he was allegedly ambushed near Boulpur village in Morrelganj by a group led by the accused. Armed with iron rods, machetes, and other sharp weapons, the attackers critically injured him. Local residents rescued Mintu and rushed him to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The suspects have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for further legal action
