Police on Sunday detained three people over the death of a teen gang member, who was killed in a clash between two rival groups over dominance in the Rayer Bazar Buddhijibi area of Mohammadpur.

The deceased was identified as Emon, also known as Alex Emon, chief of the “Alex Group”.

The clash occurred around 4:30pm, Tejgaon Division Deputy Police Commissioner Ibn Mizan confirmed.

“A clash broke out between two groups over supremacy in Rayer Bazar. Alex Emon was rescued in a critically injured condition and taken to hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at the emergency department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital,” he said.

The detainees are Md Saif, 23, Tuhin, 20, and Md Rabbi Kazi, 25. Police said they are members of Emon’s rival group.

Three machetes, a cutter and a steel sheet were recovered from their possession.

According to sources, Emon led a teen gang syndicate in the Rayer Bazar area under the name “Alex Group” and had several cases against him, including for snatching and murder.

Locals said there had long been a dispute between the Alex Emon group and the Arman-Shahrukh group over dominance in the area, which led to Sunday’s clash.

Emon's body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
