Military land director shot at home

Update : 12 Oct 2013, 04:57 AM

A gang of armed criminals shot and stabbed a director of the Directorate of Military Land and Cantonment (DMLC) in the capital’s Mohammadpur area early Friday.

The miscreants stormed into the house of DMLC Director Abdullah Mamun. They pinned his wife down to the ground at gunpoint.

Shahinul Islam, director of the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), said injured Mamun was undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Dhanmondi. He, however, could not give any further details about the reason behind the attack.

According to police and hospital sources, over 45-year-old Mamun received a bullet to his left leg and a stab injury to the left wrist. He came under the attack when they were about to enter their house after attending a function at one of their relatives’ house.

Quoting family members, Abdul Aziz, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station, said: “A gang of three criminals suddenly stormed into the premises on Salimullah Road and attacked him.

“The incident has remained shrouded in mystery as the attackers took nothing but the cell phone of Mamun. They took away the phone when he was talking to somebody during the attack.”

The Mohammmadpur OC said the criminals beat up the DMLC official, and before fleeing the scene they shot and stabbed him.

Aziz said the DMLC official and his wife claimed to have no idea about the attack and the attackers.

Asked, he said neither the victim nor any of his family members officially informed the matter to police and no case was filed as of filing the report at 11pm.
