Gunbattle in the Jamuna, weapons seized

Detective police recovered foreign pistols, bullets and sharp weapons after a gunbattle with dacoits in the Jamuna river in Bogra's Sariakandi upazila early Friday.

Bogra detective police Officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said the gunbattle took place during an attempted strike by the dacoits in Manikdair Char area around 3am.

Police fired six rounds at the dacoits, he said. The dacoits fired back two rounds before fleeing into the river.

Police later recovered one foreign pistol, five bullets, two magazines and one long dagger from the scene.

The OC said they have found out the identity of the dacoit group and the oarsman of the boat they left behind.

However, he did not reveal the details.
