Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) have claimed to have solved the mystery surrounding the recovery of 38 skeletal pieces belonging to a teenager in Ashulia Model Town, Savar.

According to the PBI, 15-year-old Milon Hossain was kidnapped and strangled to death after his auto-rickshaw was taken, reportedly for financial gain. The main planner of the crime, along with two accomplices, has been arrested, and the stolen auto-rickshaw recovered.

The details were disclosed by PBI Superintendent of Police MN Morshed at a press conference on Monday at the PBI Dhaka District office in Uttara.

SP Morshed said Milon went missing on the afternoon of September. 29 after leaving home with his auto-rickshaw. Following an extensive search, Milon’s mother, Josna Begum, filed a kidnapping case at Ashulia Police Station on November 18. On December 1, police recovered unidentified skeletal remains and clothing from a bamboo grove in Ashulia Model Town. Milon’s relatives later identified him from the clothing. Pursuant to a court order, PBI Dhaka District took over the investigation on January 1.

“PBI investigations revealed that on the day of the incident, the accused, Suman and Roni Mia, rented Milon’s auto-rickshaw and took it to Akran Bazar. From there, they lured him to a deserted bamboo grove in Ashulia Model Town. There, they consumed marijuana together and ultimately strangled Milon to death, leaving his body in the bamboo grove before fleeing with the auto-rickshaw,” SP Morshed said.

On the night of January 16, PBI conducted an operation and arrested the main suspect, Md Roni Mia, 24, from Akran Bazar in Savar. Based on information provided by him, Md Ershad Ali, 34, involved in buying and selling the auto-rickshaw, and Md. Abul Kalam, 52, owner of an auto-rickshaw garage, were also arrested.

During initial questioning, the suspects admitted selling the auto-rickshaw for Tk 62,000 and repainting it to avoid detection. They also provided confessions under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in court, SP Morshed added.

The PBI said the other accused, Suman, was arrested by local police and was currently in custody.
