Update : 06 Oct 2013, 02:21 PM

Further evidences were found in the BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s “leaked” verdict, detectives said on Sunday after raiding the room of tribunal staff Nayan Ali.

The detectives, led by Deputy Commissioner (south) Krishnapado Roy, raided the ground floor room of the International Crimes Tribunal at 11am.

Roy said the materials found in the room were “helpful and useful evidence for the investigation.” However, he did not specify any further than that.

The room was a common space used by Nayan Ali and other staffs to sleep in. There was no computer in the room.

Krishnapado Roy said the room’s other boarders were interrogated but did not say if they were involved in the “leak.”

Sources said that the other staffs were under surveillance.

Meanwhile, after the raid, investigators talked to Justice Fazle Kabir, the chairman of Tribunal 1. Roy said it was part of the investigation and some other matters.

Tribunal 1 sentenced SQ Chowdhury to the gallows for his role in the atrocities commited during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

Family and lawyers of the BNP leader alleged they had a copy of the verdict beforehand.

ICT Registrar filed a general diary with Shahbagh police on the matter after which on October 4, two ICT employees Nayan Ali and Mohammad Faruq Hossain were arrested.

Mehedi Hasan, a junior to SQ Chowdhury’s lawyer, Barrister Fakrul Islam Chowdhury, was also accused in the case along with some unnamed ndividuals.

The detectives later held a press conference and disclosed that Nayan Ali stole the draft of the verdict from the computer of Tribunal 1 chairman’s office and provided it to Mehedi Hasan.

Faruq was an affiliate in the process.

Both Nayan and Faruq are now on an 8-day remand while Mehedi is on the run.
