Update : 05 Oct 2013, 05:59 PM

Three members of Cantonment police station were beaten by a mob on Saturday, when they allegedly tried to snatch Tk3m from a gold trader in the capital.

SI Abdul Kaiyum and constables Abul Khayer and Md Alamgir were arrested after being rescued by Bongshal police.

Sources said the plain-clothed men tried to snatch the money from Md Shiblu and two others when they were on their way to Keraniganj. Hearing them scream, locals caught the policemen.

“After the mass beating, Bongshal police personnel arrested the cops and handed them to Kotwali police”, said Harun-ur-Rashid, deputy commissioner.

A case was filed against the arrested. However, Officer-in-charge of Cantonment police station Salauddin said SI Kaiyum had told him that the police team was going to Tantibazar for arresting an accused of a narcotics case
