Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali has said that the individuals involved in the shooting of Inqilab Manch spokesperson and independent Dhaka-8 candidate Sharif Osman Hadi have been identified and can be arrested at any time.
The DMP commissioner made the statement to the media around midnight on Friday, saying police are actively working to apprehend the suspects.
“The attackers who shot Sharif Osman Hadi have been identified. Police operations are underway and they may be arrested at any moment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sharif Osman Hadi has been shifted from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to Evercare Hospital in the capital following a decision by his family. He is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Earlier on Friday, at around 2:15pm, two assailants on a motorcycle shot Hadi at close range while he was travelling by rickshaw in front of the water tank area of Bijoy Nagar. The attackers fled the scene immediately.
He was initially taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition before being transferred to Evercare Hospital.
Dr Mostaq Ahmed, resident physician of the DMCH emergency department, said the bullet entered Hadi’s right side and exited through his left ear, with fragments remaining in his brain.
