Bangladesh Army has warned that legal action will be taken against those spreading false or misleading information on social media about the arrests of seven individuals, including a former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader, in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday morning at the temporary army camp of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Lt Col Lutfor Rahman, commander of the 14 Field Regiment Artillery, said the arrests were carried out based on specific intelligence reports.
On Wednesday night, a joint force detained the suspects, including Enamul Haque Mollah, a former upazila-level JCD leader, during a special raid in Barkul village and surrounding areas.
The forces recovered two foreign pistols, three magazines, four rounds of ammunition, four walkie-talkies, four batons, two electric shock devices, a hammer nail gun, and a sharp knife during the operation.
Lt Col Rahman said Enamul is a criminal, a robbery ringleader, and a wanted fugitive in multiple cases. He added that relatives and associates of the arrestees are attempting to spread false and misleading information online with the intention of diverting attention from the incident.
“Action will be taken against those engaging in such malicious activities,” he warned.
