Imported substandard medicines worth Tk25m were seized from the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday, during a joint drive by customs intelligence and drugs administrations personnel. The medicines, imported in three separate caches from China, lacked the proper documents and were of substandard quality, said Moinul khan, DG of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation.
“Our drives will continue from [Monday] at the cargo village where many more caches of such medicines are awaiting release.
“A total of 1,644 caches of substandard medicines and surgical instruments worth Tk940m have been imported and released by the authorities of the Customs and the International Container Depot (ICD) in the last 18 months through Dhaka and Chittagong airports and Kamalapur ICD,” Moinul also said.
The importers of the seized medicines were yet to be identified, he added.
