BNP leader and former member of its national committee Zeba Amina Khan has been accused of planning an attack, vandalism, looting and holding domestic workers hostage at her ex-husband’s flat in the capital's Baridhara Diplomatic Zone.
According to police and victims, two apartments on UN Road in the capital’s Baridhara area were attacked between 9:30 pm on June 27 and 3 am on June 28.
One of these apartments is occupied by the accused's ex-husband, Mukarram Hossain Khan, managing director of Capital Land Development Limited, and the other is occupied by Mukarram Hossain Khan's daughter, Mahira Hossain Khan, executive director of the firm.
It is learnt that while the victims were out of the country, accused Zeba Amina Khan, her maid, a group of transgenders and 8-9 other unidentified people entered the flat posing as Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal leaders and activists and first broke the CCTV cameras and took the maids hostage.
Then they ransacked the two flats extensively and looted 14 valuable foreign brand Rolex and Omega watches, 10 expensive pens, designer bags, diamond sets, gold ornaments and cash, totaling approximately Tk77.5 lakh.
The people who were with them, posing as BNP leaders, physically assaulted the maids and injured the security guards. CCTV footage showed Zeba Amina Khan and her accomplices entering the house.
Later, when the employees of Mukarram Hossain Khan's flat called 999, Gulshan Police Station quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. In the video footage, Zeba Amina Khan herself admitted responsibility for the incident.
The plaintiff in the case said that in 2018, Zeba Amina Khan was nominated for MP election from the Nalchity constituency of Jhalakathi on behalf of the BNP.
There are allegations that when the victims first went to Gulshan Police Station to file a complaint, there was a delay in accepting it.
In addition, the police took the key to one of the victim's flats into their custody, which has not been returned so far. In this incident, the victim Mahira Hossain Khan, on the advice of a lawyer, filed a case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court under sections 323, 354, 365, 380, 427, 447, 448, 457, 506(2) and 34 of the Penal Code.
The court took cognizance of the complaint and ordered the PBI to investigate.
The victim's family has demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment.
Sources close to the victim also said that they will file a complaint with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and their secretary general.
