A man was killed on Saturday in Chittagong’s City Gate area, allegedly over disputes over a plot of land.

The deceased was identified as City Gate resident Belal Hossain, 32, son of late Sahab Mian.

Abdur Razzak, the officer-in-charge of Akbarshah police station, said Belal had a long standing dispute with one Roni over a piece of land.

On Friday evening, police were called in after Rony and his friends had an altercation with Belal near Pakka Rastar Matha in Kalirhat.

Later at around 11:30pm, Roni and his cohorts allegedly stabbed Belal near his house, leaving him critically injured.

Belal was taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 12:30am on Saturday, said the OC.

Angered by the incident, local people and the deceased’s relatives blocked Dhaka-Chittagong highway at city gate area for two hours on Saturday noon, demanding the arrest of the killers.

OC Abdur Razzak said drives have been carried out with Rapid Action Battalion and the Detective Branch, to apprehend the suspects. No case has yet been filed in this connection, he added.
