Eight injured in Bandarban clash

At least eight indigenous people were critically injured in a clash with Bangalee settlers over land dispute in Lama of Bandarban Monday.

The injured Mongshanu Marma, 25, Onghala Pru Marma, 22, Uch Hala Marma, 35, Mong Hala Thoyai Marma, 25, Chuse Thui Marma, 25, Ong Ke Thoyai Marma, 28, Mong Wang Wu Marma, 30 and Na Pru Marma, 28  were sent to Lama Upazila Health Complex.

Police said one Muhibul Haque of Rupshi Para union allegedly attacked the Marma people of Rupsi Para in a bid to grab around 40 acres of land.

Contacted, Muhibul claimed that he had bought the land from one Sudorshon Barua few days back.

Thachingpru Marma, chairman of Rupsi Para union, said he had initiated to settle the issue once examining the land documents. “Despite that Muhibul several times attacked on the innocent people to grab the land.”

OC of Lama police Shahjahan Khan said: “Both the groups have been demanding the land which triggered the clash.”
